WHY IRISES
Falls & Standards is a platform to share & document and share the studio’s love for bearded irises (iris germanica). Born from a deep (and ever-growing) passion and obsession for bearded irises. Our passion grew from seeing the potential of a flower that has long been considered to be “old-fashioned” and how its delicate nuances in colour and elegant ruffles hold endless inspiration for us as designers and artists.
We felt we needed a dedicated space to share the incredible varieties of bearded irises we grow and work with, so Falls and Standards was created as an outlet to share all things iris to the thousands of other iris enthusiasts across the world.

WHAT WE GROW
We grow over 150 varieties of bearded iris, each one completely individual and offering a wide combination of hues. No one iris is the same blend of colours; this creates an opportunity for so much creativity in our floral designs and styling. Our iris are predominantly American varieties, hybridized by some of the best growers in the USA, this means our collection is unusual and offers the opportunity to see and work with varieties that are not readily available in the UK.
USING IRISES
Over the eight years of growing bearded irises, we have gained extensive knowledge of how to grow and arrange these unique flowers. Often seen as a challenging flower to work with, we embrace their bold structure and flamboyant nature to create designs that celebrate their fleeting striking beauty.
Falls & Standards offers an array of content via its own Instagram, with informative videos, priority access to rhizome sales and cut stem sales.

We have also created a series of iris indexes to help you build your garden collection, sharing some of our favourite tried & tested bearded iris varieties. In April 2022, we chatted to Nicole and Sarah of the Let’s Grow Girls Podcast; while we talked about all things flowers, the main topic of conversation was our love of bearded irises. We talk about our passion for them, why we love them so much, how we grow them and how we use them in our work—even sharing the details and names of some of our favourite varieties.
